MOARAQKARI TABLEAU COULD BE A GREAT IDEA FOR YOUR WALL DECORATION

IRAN ART EXHIBITION: MOARAQKARI TABLEAU COULD BE A GREAT IDEA FOR YOUR WALL DECORATION

Moaraghkari or Wood Inlaying (Moaragh) is the art of substituting the different parts of a design with coloured pieces of wood and integrating them to decorate the surface of a tableau or wooden surface. Lexically, Inlaid (Moaragh) means a set of tiny pieces joined together to form a mechanism.

For Moaraghkari, many different wood types are used, such as Sour Orange’s Wood, Jujube Wood, Berberis Wood, Poplar Wood and Walnut Wood.
When the cuts are ready, they are stuck together with wood glue on the main sheet and smooth gently with sandpapers. The outcome will be much prettier if the drawing is more elaborate and the saw’s line is recognisable, making the main drawing highly important.

Moaraq (wood mosaic-work) is one of the main handicrafts of Iran in which small colored pieces of wood are carefully placed next to one another and create beautiful images resembling a painting masterpiece. To create a mosaic-work, however, beside naturally colored wood, it is possible to use other materials such as bone, shell, zinc, ivory, inlaid, which is the art of using geometrical forms carved on wood. Today, in Iran’s bazars, various types of mosaic tableaus are on sale with a variety of themes including natural landscapes, animal images, historically prominent figures, and Iranian classical or Quranic verses.

Important Considerations at the Time of Purchasing Mosaic Tableaus
IRAN ART EXHIBITION: Make sure that the Mosaic Tableau you are about to purchase has a completely dried wood-work. In a high-quality mosaic-work, the outer layer of the tableau is completely burnished and smoothened. The smaller the wood pieces used in the tableau, the higher the value of it. Mosaic tableau must be kept in arid places without humidity and never to be washed.
